A last-minute header by Pacific FC center-back Lukas MacNaughton earned the Vancouver Island side a hard-fought point against York 9.

York 9 created some early chances and, much like against Atletico Ottawa, they looked dangerous from set-piece positions. 17-year-old striker Wright, starting his first match for York, was unable to add to his goal tally, heading over the bar twice.

Despite being behind in possession and territory, it was Pacific FC who looked the most threatening side before the break. Both centre-back Thomas Meilleur-Giguère and 20-year-old midfielder Alessandro Hojabrpour coming close, with the latter heading wide with Natham Ingham beaten.

Pacific saw more of the ball in the second half with both Marco Bustos and Victor Blasco coming close to opening the score. It was York 9 though who finally broke the deadlock, substitute Álvaro Rivero firing high into the top corner from a Ryan Telfer knockdown.

Both teams will have to wait for their first win of the season though as, in the 92nd-minute, centre-back Lukas MacNaughton rose highest at the near post to head in from a Blasco corner to tie the game 1-1.

No upper hand gained in the race for top four.

Following ties in the opening round of fixtures, both teams were hoping to gain their first invaluable three-points in the race for the playoff spots in this year's Canadian Premier League 'Island Games'.

Pacific made one change to their starting line up with Verhoven giving way to Dixon in midfield. On the other side, the impressive 16-year-old striker, Wright, was granted his full debut following his goal against Atletico Ottawa with Ryan Telfer leading the line.

York 9 took an early foothold on the game, moving the ball around the midfield with ease. Captain Manny Aparicio, returning to the starting line-up after his absence in the opening fixture, provided the spark of creativity they often lacked against Atleti.

The first chance of the game came as Aparicio turned well to feed Kyle Porter who broke into the box but will lament his shot as he blasted high over the bar on his left foot.

It was the youngster Wright's turn to come close next as he met Telfer's free-kick. His looping header beating the keeper but not the frame of the goal as it bounced off the top of the crossbar.

The 16-year-old had another opportunity ten-minutes later. Again from a Ryan Telfer freekick, Wright lost his defender and rose well at the near post, though his header lacked control flying harmlessly over the frame of the goal.

Despite the early pressure, it was Pacific FC who registered the first shot on target. A corner from the right wasn't properly cleared and Meilleur-Giguère was the quickest to react to the loose ball in the box, his right-footed half volley saved down the middle of the goal by Ingham.

York 9 continued to control the game but looked vulnerable on the break. Crosses into the box from the left-foot of Marcel de Jong, returning to competitive football after a 239-day absence due to injury, caused plenty of issues.

On the 39th-minute Pacific should've taken the lead when Hojabrpour met De Jongs early cross. Unmarked in the 18-yard area, the 20-year-old planted his head wide with Ingham rooted to the spot.

Pacific leave it late, despite second-half dominance.

The tide changed after the break, with Pacific pinning York 9 back in their half. The creative spark coming from both sides with Bustos and Blasco both looking threatening.

It was the former who created the first chance of the second-half as, after playing the ball inside, he received the ball back from an intricate flick but he was unable to find the bottom corner with his left foot shot.

It was Blasco's turn to come close next as, just like against Halifax, blasted his shot over the bar after finding himself in acres of space on the left-hand side.

Against the run of play, it was York 9 who broke the deadlock. A searching long ball from the back by Roger Thompson found Telford, rising highest to knock the ball down to Álvaro Rivero.

Sorting his feet out in expert fashion, the substitute took a touch in the area before deploying an unstoppable strike into the top corner.

Despite further substitutions York were unable to get a foot on the ball and the pressure kept coming, however Pacific were limited to half chances.

Blasco showed some flashes of brilliance, taking a high ball down before skillfully beating Morey Doner and hanging the ball up to the back post. Bustos got his head to the ball but could only put it wide.

As pressure mounted so did the number of corners. Meilleur-Giguère once again looking dangerous but his tame header fell harmlessly into Ingham's gloves.

With the final whistle growing nearer it looked like it would be a hurdle too far for Pacific until, in the 92nd-minute a delightful corner by Blasco was flicked on at the near post by MacNaughton. The deftest of touches was enough to divert the flight of the ball and put off Ingham who could only help the ball into his net.

Though neither team will be overly satisfied with the result, it will be Pacific FC who will be the happier side as they showed grit and resilience to the last minute, as they earned a well-deserved point.
