Cavalry apply the pressure on Forge as they ease past FC Edmonton in 'Al Classico'

Cavalry strolled to a 2-0 win against local rivals FC Edmonton in this year's first 'Al Classico' which saw Cavalry awarded the 8th penalty of the season.

Josh Brown became the first player to score a brace in this season's Canadian Premier League - putting him at the top of this year's goalscoring charts - when he slotted home the penalty kick that he won in the 93rd-minute.

As a tame but robust first half drew to a close the fantastic Elliot Simmons unlocked Edmonton's defence finding the overlapping Mohamed Farsi. The impressive fullback's cross was miscued by Oliver Minatel but the ball fell kindly to Brown on the edge of the six-yard area who finished in expert fashion.

The game got even further out of FC Edmonton's reach on the 48th-minute when Terique Mohammed, on loan from Toronto FC, was dismissed for a high challenge. A double blow for Edmonton who lost a defender and their most threatening player from the first half.

Cavalry had a series of good opportunities to double their lead as the second half went on - by contrast, Edmonton didn't register a shot on target all game. Simmons pulling the strings for Cavalry, setting up chances for Brown and Nico Pasquotti as well as substitute Marcus Haber drawing an excellent save from keeper Connor James.

As the game drew to a close Brown darted into the box, drawing a challenge from Jeannot Esua. The FC Edmonton full-back was judged to have brought down the English striker who converted the spot-kick sending James the wrong way to make it 2-0.
